When and where do Barnsley Opals meet?
We meet on the 1st Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. Members and guests are welcome to arrive from 7pm to grab a drink and get settled with the meeting starting at 7:30pm. The meeting finishes at around 9:00pm. We meet at Staincross Club in Mappelwell which has plenty of free parking and has an accessible ramp.

We have the odd summer meeting outside in Anne's garden (a large field in Royston) which has toilet facilities and we can provide tea and coffee and usually cake.

How much does it cost?
WI fees are set each each by the National Federation of Women's Institute. The current rates vary depending on the times of year you join. The full year subscription rate is £44.00. The National Federation publishes these subscription rates on their website. We can take cash, cheque and bank transfer and we are looking at introducing card payments in the future.

Can I find out what Barnsley Opals is like before I join?
Of course, visitors are more than welcome to come along and find out more about us before formally joining. Just email or get in touch through Facebook and we can arrange for you to virtually attend a session.
What happens at a meeting?
Each meeting usually starts with business first. This might be updates about what is going on or any actions for the group from the committee meeting. It will also include news about what is going on in the South Yorkshire Federation and the National Federation of WIs. After this, we have an activity, event or speaker. Please see our programme page for more information.
Can I suggest an idea for a guest speaker or event?
Our exciting programme for 2023 has been finalised, however If you have any ideas you would like to put forward please mention it at a meeting or email Barnsleyopals@gmail.com
